Nikki Farquharson

TUESDAY 2ND DECEMBER 2008

I came across a designer called Nikki Farquharson while I was researching for my ISTD project. She has done some really cool stuff - I really like her All Wrapped Up project. She took inspiration from the ribbon in a book that you use to mark the pages:

She has also done a project on conversations she heard over a period of 3 months - its called 'Snippets':

Sean Rees has a really nice portfolio. I particularly like his work for Vodafone:

and his Love/Hate Helvetica poster for a debate with the design community is so well executed - I think it works really well:

ISTD - three minutes

MONDAY 1ST DECEMBER 2008

There is something really interesting on www.formfiftyfive.com : Mike Reed self promotion by 300million

This is such a great piece of design, I have spent ages thinking about this and how it is done, but I can't seem to work it out! How annoying! I am determined to figure out how it is done.

For my ISTD brief I am think about making a book and something along these lines could fit really well with the basis of my design. I am playing with a few ideas at the moment, but there is one in particular I am really keen on pursuing! I have wanted to do something like it for a long time, and I think this could be a great opportunity!

Studio Punkat

MONDAY 1ST DECEMBER 2008

I came across some of the work of Studio Punkat through ilovetypography.com.

I really like the use of mono and colour in these designs. The logo is particularly nice as well.

I tend to use a lot of black and white in my design work, mono tones. I need to start looking at introducing colour as it is something I don't feel overly confident with. I think both of the designs below are good examples of introducing a colour to an essentially typographic design:
